MILLS, John Curtis, III, Born January 10, 1973, lifelong resident of Tampa, Florida passed away on December 27, 2013 after a short illness. John attended St. Mary's Episcopal Day School, and graduated from H.B. Plant High School. He continued his education at Nova University where he trained to be an emergency medical technician. John was a talented and passionate interior designer. Early in his career, he managed the New York City showroom of Kravet Design Center. Upon returning to Tampa, he continued his design career, recently opening Casa Nier, specializing in fine antiques and design. John was man who had a tremendous zest for life, whether participating in invasion day with Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, hosting dinner parties at his home, or enjoying many cruises with his mother, grandmother, brother, and most recently his father. One had only to see his extravagant Gasparilla hat above the crowd or hear of his many trips to know that he was a larger than life individual and always the life of the party. He is also a member of the Tampa Yacht and Country Club. John was a loving, caring, loyal person devoted to family and friends. He loved his home and garden and entertaining friends in Boca Grande. His creativity was unsurpassed. He is predeceased by his mother Anne McGinnis Mills; brother Charles Courtney Mills; grandmother Ann H. Knowlton; step-grandfathers Loper B. Lowry and Dr. Horace A. Knowlton. He is also predeceased by grandparents John C. Mills, Sr. and Elisabeth Davis (Missy) Mills, and uncle Richard M. Chapman, Jr. He is survived by his father John C. Mills, Jr. He is also survived by his aunt Stephanie Mills Chapman; cousins Stephanie Chapman Parker (Shane) and their children Patrick Chapman Parker and William Reid Parker, Richard M. Chapman, III (Ginger) and their children Catherine Elizabeth Chapman and McKinley Anne Chapman, cousin John M. Chapman; uncle, Edwin Davis Mills; cousins Allison Elisabeth Mills and Mary Whitney Mills; cousin William H. Mills, Jr. and family of St. Petersburg; numerous cousins from Birmingham, AL. John is also survived by loving family friends, Matthew Otto, Peter and Elizabeth Keifer, Dorothy Wilson, Hal and Anne Mullis and family, Don and Sue Cox and family, Mary C. Branch, Ashley T. Branch, Walter A. Baldwin, Jr. (and the late Sally Baldwin) and family, Madeleine K. Courtney and family, and Carolyn C. Corr and family. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Tiva and Clayton. There will be a Memorial Service held at St. John's Episcopal Church, 902 S. Orleans Ave., Friday January 3rd at 11:00am.
