John was a talented and passionate interior designer. Early in his career, he managed the New York City showroom of Kravet Design Center. John was man who had a tremendous zest for life, whether participating in invasion day with Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, hosting dinner parties at his home, or enjoying many cruises with his mother, grandmother, brother, and most recently his father. One had only to see his extravagant Gasparilla hat above the crowd or hear of his many trips to know that he was a larger than life individual and always the life of the party. He is also a member of the Tampa Yacht and Country Club. John was a loving, caring, loyal person devoted to family and friends. He loved his home and garden and entertaining friends in Boca Grande. His creativity was unsurpassed. He is predeceased by his mother Anne McGinnis Mills; brother Charles Courtney Mills; grandmother Ann H. Knowlton; step-grandfathers Loper B. Lowry and Dr. Horace A. Knowlton. He is also predeceased by grandparents John C. Mills, Sr. and Elisabeth Davis (Missy) Mills, and uncle Richard M. Chapman, Jr. He is survived by his father John C. Mills, Jr. He is also survived by his aunt Stephanie Mills Chapman; cousins Stephanie Chapman Parker (Shane) and their children Patrick Chapman Parker and William Reid Parker, Richard M. Chapman, III (Ginger) and their children Catherine Elizabeth Chapman and McKinley Anne Chapman, cousin John M. Chapman; uncle, Edwin Davis Mills; cousins Allison Elisabeth Mills and Mary Whitney Mills; cousin William H. Mills, Jr. and family of St. Petersburg; numerous cousins from Birmingham, AL. John is also survived by loving family friends, Matthew Otto, Peter and Elizabeth Keifer, Dorothy Wilson, Hal and Anne Mullis and family, Don and Sue Cox and family, Mary C. Branch, Ashley T. Branch, Walter A. Baldwin, Jr. (and the late Sally Baldwin) and family, Madeleine K. Courtney and family, and Carolyn C. Corr and family. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Tiva and Clayton. There will be a Memorial Service held at St. John's Episcopal Church, 902 S. Orleans Ave., Friday January 3rd at 11:00am. Our heart goes out to John's father and family. The Forehand and Korakis families are so very sad for the loss of John as he gave so much love and so many smiles and laughs throughout his life. He touches us deeply and we are all so much better for having known and loved him and spent time and made great memories with him.

I remember Christmas caroling with my old friend John as little children. His singing voice from bass to a fun-loving near alto belted Christmas carols door to door with me and other friends.

I remember his barter with my mother Diane to affix a big red heart on my Raggedy Ann costume so he as Dracula could snatch my heart at Cotillion Halloween dance.

And I still have the three heart necklace he gave me as little kids. John, you always have my heart and so many, many, many othersforever and ever. - Meg

John was one of my dearest friends, as he was to so many. Always there for good times and even the tough times. I will truly miss our talks and walks on the beach, drinks at The Pink and pizza at Sisters...not to mention your home cooking and sleep overs at the condo...monopoly all nighters (which you always won!) He brought so much joy and light into my life and I could go on forever...I will miss you terribly and think of you often. I love you and know you are whole, fully healed and at peace (as well as livening things up, up there!) Looking forward to your bear hugs when it's my time to go Home too, see you then! Xo My condolences to Big John and the rest of the entire family. Much love & Peace.
